X   3 4 XO 3 3  Those of us who work around horseshoe
OO 6 9 6     3  tournaments know what a big job it is to
XO 3 12 8 X   3  check all the score sheets that come in to
O 3 15 10     3  the tournament office during an event. Over
    15 12 O 3 6  the years a very easy way to check these
OO 6 21 14     6  sheets has been worked out and used by a
XO 3 24 16 X   6  few people.
X' 1 25 18 X   6
XO 3 28 20 X   6 Do not let all the words throw you off
28 22 OO   12 as it is a very easy system to learn.
  1 29 24     12
    29 26 O' 4 16   I will explain it in words then give an
X' 1 30 28 X   16          example for you to follow.
    30 30 O 3 19
    30 32 OO 6 25  #1     Subtract the losers ringers from the
OO 6 36 34     25  winners ringers. [ in our case 20 - 17 = 3 ]
XO 3 39 36 X   25
X   39 38 XO 3 28  #2      Multiply the difference in ringers
  1 40 40     28  times 3.             [  3 x 3 = 9 ]

#3       Now add the winners single points
  40   Points   28    to your total.       [ 9 + 4 = 13 ]
  20   Ringers   17
7   Doubles   4    #4        Now subtract the losers single
40   Shoes   40    points from your total in step # 3.
  50%   Percent Ringers   42.50%       [  13 - 1 = 12 ]
#5          The winner should have won by
the answer you had from step # 4.
   [ 40 - 28 = 12 ]
It just take 5 seconds to check a score sheet using this method.
The only time it will slow you down is if you find an error. Here is the formula
Winners Ringers 20 Minus Losers Ringers 17 Equals 3
3 times points per ringer (3) equals 9

9 plus Winners Points Single Scored 4 (9+4)= 13

13 minus Losers Points Single Scored 1 (13-1)= 12
Difference between winner and loser points equals 12
The answer in the box should equal the difference in the final score. If it does , then the score sheet is correct.
If it doesn't then the score sheet contains an error and you'll have to search for it.
I have shown a sample sheet here for you to follow while learning the system.
After checking a dozen or so you will be amazed at how quickly you can get a sheet checked.
This system will work for any type of cancellation game, 50 point, 40 point, 50 shoe, etc.
